PAGE 5 – Audience profile & Magazine brief
Audience Profile
I aimed my questionnaire at 16-20yr olds and mainly males, as this is the target audience that I have chosen for my magazine, therefore the the information gathered from this group would be the most important information.
My questionnaire showed that people enjoyed a wide range of music but dance and indie seemed most popular it also showed that most people read magazines about once a week but only buy them between once a fortnight and once a month, this would mean I would have to release a new copy of my magazine every month at least for it to keep up with demand. People who answered my questionnaire also gave feedback about what they would want to read about in a magazine saying that they find music, art and fashion interesting, for that reason I should include information about these subjects in it to make it appealing. Comments made in the questionnaire illustrated the fact that my target audience like socialising and going out so I want to make my magazine style laid back and informal so they can relate to it. Colours that people liked were blues and whites; blue is a good colour as it is more of a boy,s colour so will be ideal for the male market. Reponses showed that what people find most appealing on a front cover are the celebrity and colour. A bright colour helps to make the cover stand out and also having a character that people will instantly recognise helps to attract people.
Brief
My results helped me gain an idea of what my target audience like and are attracted too. I can see that my target audience will want a magazine that is in a relaxed and casual style. Colours need to appeal to my audience so it will catch their eye; my results show that blue and white will be most effective. I should include information not only about music but fashion and art also as these topics are what my target audience find interesting. Like any magazine I should make it engaging and eye-catching to attract the reader.
To make my magazine front cover look high-quality I will print it on glossy paper this will enhance its look. The photo I use must have good composition and represent my target audience well so they can link to it. It is a good idea to include “buzz” words, “puffs” and blurbs on my front cover to help address the reader. Structure is important, having the title at the top shows its importance and makes it clear to see.
The contents page should follow similar codes and conventions as the front cover to make it link together and show a clear theme, I need to keep the fonts and colours consistent. The contents page needs to contain more information so the reader can navigate through the magazine easily, page numbers and articles will be listed. Including images here of bands and things featured in the magazine helps to show the reader what the magazine contains and important articles or special features. Here I will include a shot of my featured band, to show a clear link to the front cover. I don’t want to over crowd this page with information, as this may make it less appealing and seem boring.
My double page spread will consist of a large photo of my band and an article about their success. I want to keep my magazine having a relaxed attitude and fun appeal so I need to think carefully about how my characters will be portrayed and how they address the reader. Quotes taken from the main article could be used to draw the reader in and make them want to read the whole article as this would give them a taste of it.
For my magazine to look good I need to stick to certain codes and conventions, but to make it stand out I also need to think about challenging some of these to set my magazine apart.
